To commemorate his second anniversary as the Nsit Ibom State Constituency representative in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Eric Akpan has disbursed ₦30 million in business and agriculture grants to his constituents.
At a meeting convened at the residence of the Political Leader of Nsit Ibom Local Government Area, General Paul Isang rtd. in Uyo to brief his constituents on his achievements over the past two years, the lawmaker stated that the recent grants were aimed at established businesses to aid their expansion.
Highlighting his strides in the three cardinal responsibilities of a legislator, Hon. Eric Akpan noted that he had personally sponsored three bills, co-sponsored 15 bills, moved six people-oriented motions, and raised several matters of urgent public importance.
As the Chairman of the House Committee on Public Accounts, which oversees the finances of the state, local government councils, and allied institutions, Hon. Akpan reported that the committee had facilitated the ratification of the audited accounts for local government councils for the years 2021, 2022, and 2023, as well as the audited accounts of the state for 2023.
He mentioned that his committee had also conducted an oversight visit to the offices of the Auditor General for Local Government and the State Accountant General, where strategic recommendations were made to enhance the efficiency of these offices.
In terms of representation, the Nsit Ibom lawmaker listed several projects he had attracted to his constituency, along with numerous projects he had funded. Projects attracted included a primary health center and a borehole project in Ikot Oku Nsit. Funded projects encompassed a borehole in the Afia Nsit 1 community, another in Ikot Asat community, and the activation of a borehole project in Ukat community.
Hon. Eric Akpan also highlighted various empowerment initiatives he had undertaken, which included providing mini buses, tricycles, cargo tricycles, motorcycles, freezers, generating sets, industrial and manual sewing machines, grass-cutting machines, and grinding machines.
He shared that he had disbursed business grants, educational grants, bursaries for students, professional course grants, and honorariums to elders and traditional rulers, bringing the total amount spent to over ₦190 million, positively impacting about 1,500 constituents.
During the second anniversary briefing, constituents received business support and agriculture grants aimed at expanding their ventures.
Hon. Eric Akpan also conferred leadership awards on five elders of the local government area in recognition of their roles in uniting Nsit Ibom.
He expressed gratitude to Governor Umoh Eno for his cooperation with the state house of assembly and for his proactive leadership of the state.
Hon. Eric Akpan promised to continue advocating for, protecting, and defending the interests of his constituency while soliciting their ongoing support.
The Chairman on the Occasion and Chairman Uyo Local Government, Dr Uwemedimo Udoh, commended Hon. Eric Akpan, for serving as a shining example of how a people’s representative to live and act.
Hon. Udoh who also chairs the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria ( ALGON) Akwa Ibom State Chapter, said Nsit Ibom was lucky to have a people centered representation and urge them to support Hon. Eric Akpan to do more.
Earlier, the Political leader of Nsit Ibom Local Government Area, General Paul Isang rtd, welcomed Nsit Ibom people to his home and thanked Hon. Eric Akpan for allowing him host the anniversary meeting.
The Political Leader said he was proud of Hon. Eric Akpan’s representation and thanked him for regularly briefing his constituents.
